The Nicolau de Almeida family is one of the most important and has helped grow what we know today as Douro wines. João Nicolau de Almeida's father is none other than Fernando Nicolau de Almeida, the creator of the famous Barca Velha.

Quinta do Monte Xisto was born from the desire of João Nicolau de Almeida to leave something that represents the continuity of the family in the Douro. The wines represent the best that the Douro produces, combining the schist structure with the oenological mastery of those who have been producing wines for over 40 years.
