Nuno Palma is a Full Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Manchester, United Kingdom, and Director of the Arthur Lewis Lab for Comparative Development at the same institution. He is also a researcher at the Institute of Social Sciences, University of Lisbon, and at the Centre for Economic Policy Research in London. He has received several international awards, including the Stiglitz Prize, awarded by the International Economic Association. Author of the book The Causes of Portugal’s Delay, Nuno Palma addresses key questions in this talk: Why is Portugal today a wealthy country by global standards, yet poor in the European context? What are the historical causes and background of our developmental delay?
