TALK with Lourenço Pereira Coutinho and Sérgio Sousa Pinto TALK with Lourenço Pereira Coutinho and Sérgio Sousa Pinto

Are the main portuguese structural problems a fatality to the country’s evolution?

Lourenço Pereira Coutinho invites Sérgio Sousa Pinto so that together they can identify the main structural problems that have conditioned the Portuguese evolution. Some will be specific to the current regime, others have dragged through centuries and remain unresolved. This will be the motto to look positively to the future, which we know will be demanding, and to reflect, together with the members, on ways to overcome the identified constraints.

Sérgio Sousa Pinto has a degree in Law (University of Lisbon) and is a member of the Socialist Party. He attended the Institut Saint-Luc and the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Visuels (ENSAV) in Brussels. He was secretary general of the Socialist Youth, national leader of the Socialist Party, member of the European Parliament and President of the delegation for relations with Mercosur. He currently chairs the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Portuguese Communities. He published, with Mário Soares, the book Diálogo de Gerações. He is a regular presence in the media, namely in CNN Portugal and in the newspaper Expresso.

Lourenço Pereira Coutinho (Lisbon, 1973), is a PhD in Institutional History and Contemporary Politics (PIUDHist) and Integrated Researcher at CHAM NOVA FCSH. He was a senior technician in the Communication Department of ICEP and advisor to the Minister of Education in the XVI Constitutional Government. Besides being the author of books and chapters in books in his area of specialty, he is a columnist for Expresso online, a regular presence in Expresso magazine and, as a commentator, on SIC Noticias. He is also the author of four historical novels.
