Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by embracing cracks and imperfections as part of each piece's unique story. Inspired by the philosophy of Wabi-sabi, this practice highlights the marks of time with gold, transforming breakage into beauty and meaning.
In this introductory workshop, participants will discover the history and principles of Kintsugi and have the opportunity to restore a broken ceramic piece using a modern raised gold repair technique. While following the key steps of the traditional method, this contemporary approach uses modern materials, allowing the restoration to be completed within a few hours.
You are welcome to bring your own broken ceramic piece to repair. However, the workshop also includes a broken ceramic piece and all the materials needed. Please note that the restored pieces will not be food-safe.
