Rafa Zafra, one of the most recognized Spanish chefs, was born in Seville and it was there, alongside his family, that his immense passion and respect for the kitchen began.

Throughout his career, Zafra has worked in some of the best restaurants in Spain, such as Tristán, Arzak and Calima, but he reaches the peak of his fame at El Bulli, where he took the lead as head chef thanks to his knowledge of Andalusian flavor which he brought to Ferran Adrià's restaurant. At just 26 years old, he won and kept two Michelin stars from 2008 until it closed, in 2012.

In 2011, he became a gastronomic consultant for OASIS, creating new gastronomic venues and restaurants in different hotels of the chain in Spain and Cancun. He has been the executive chef of OASIS SENS since 2012, that same year he also opened the Benazuza restaurant, where he created a unique tasting menu based on Mexican flavors, which makes him a reference in Mexican gastronomy, being distinguished as “Personality of the Year - Chef Revelation” in 2013.

In May 2015, he became Executive Chef of the new project of the brothers Adrià and Guy La liberte, HEART IBIZA, their most ambitious gastronomic project in recent years, which combines art, music and gastronomy. In just four months he received a SOL from the Repsol Guide.

With a  very unique style and personality, Rafa Zafra decides to open in 2016 his most personal project in Barcelona, the Estimar restaurant, which is above all a reflection of his roots, his love for the Mediterranean and a tribute to the products of the SEA.

That same year, Estimar received the award for “Best New Restaurant in Barcelona” by Guia Macarfi. Since its opening to the present day, it has been distinguished with numerous awards and  Estimar de Madrid, inaugurated in 2020, received the first SOL Repsol just three months after opening. Today both Estimar Barcelona and Estimar Madrid are counting with two SOL Repsol each.

2017-2018 The OAD guide awards Estimar two years in a row with the "Best Gourmet Casual Restaurant in Europe". 

In 2020,  Rafa also fulfilled one of the dreams of his life with the opening of JONDAL, a beach bar, in his beloved Ibiza. With a more relaxed atmosphere, without neglecting the demand for quality and respect for raw ingredients. In less than 3 months it is considered the perfect beach bar and one of the best in the world. It also achieved its first SOL Repsol little after it openned.
